Your Trainer...(a few of the Common terms
used at class)
* Move ..a change of location ...an action from a motionless position
* Change hands ...move the crook from the hand it is in to the hand
it is not in.
*Drop your leash. ..often the reason for not changing
hands.
* Spinning is almost always a mistake .. while moving you have
changed your body position by turning your body while still maintaining
your present course.
* Work your sheep not your dog ...you have lost care and control of
your sheep, you have decided that the dog needs your attention more than
the sheep. Often the sheep have left and you do not even know it.
*This is a dog and they are the sheep . I have now gone
into the work area to point out to you which animal is which.
* Sheep change ...I am letting the sheep in the arena out of the
arena to their hold pen. I need assistance to bring into the arena a
fresh group of sheep.
* Light crew...several people are needed to collect and put up the
lights around the arena; it will be dark soon.

Late Brag...
Cassy-On Sunday, June 15 at the IEHDA Trial, Stonewall Ranch,
Casaddy earned the second leg of her HTD Is
title under judge Steve Waltenburg. It was the capable work of Matt (DH
- designated handler) stepping in for owner Margaret Elliot (IR -
injured reserve) that made this possible. Many thanks to Jerry and Matt
for their parts in Cassie's continuing development as a sheepherding
dog. We look forward to many more legs and titles

AKC URGENT ALERT: CA AB 1634 to Change – AKC Vigorously Opposes!
[Thursday, August 21, 2008]
Late yesterday we received a proposed 12th amendment to the wording of
CA AB 1634 which Lloyd Levine’s staff presented to our lobbyist. Also,
we understand that Mr. Levine attempted to amend his bill in the Senate,
in spite of the fact that he had assured the AKC through our lobbyist
that the bill was in its final form. As a result of this last minute
attempt, we no longer have confidence in the definition of this bill or
the credibility of its author.
The AKC is outraged and dismayed by Mr. Levine’s last minute action to
remove the incentives that were put in place to recognize responsible
dog ownership. The new amendment will allow local government to avoid
providing discounted licenses for owners who microchip, or owners who
microchip and spay/neuter, their animals.
A primary reason AKC moved to a neutral position was because it
reinforced and rewarded responsible behavior. We believe the process to
advance this bill is no longer being conducted in a forthright and
transparent manner. Given Mr. Levine’s recent tactics and the fact that
we no longer feel confident that an acceptable bill will be produced, a
neutral position is no longer appropriate. Therefore, AKC must
vigorously oppose this legislation.
For more information, contact AKC’s Government Relations Department at
(919) 816-3720, or e-mail doglaw@akc.org.

AB 1634 is California's mandatory spay/neuter law for all dogs owner
which has been defeated. |
