Perspective...(Hero's)

This year we thank Penny, Jerry, Matt, Dena and her husband John. Lunch was provided by Jerry.  We removed the fertilizer down to the hard surface with the wheel barrows and shovels.  Once again the sheep pen is graded so that it should drain properly.

We where not able to take down  the fencing of sheep pen, or replaced the tarp and a few other things we do to make the sheep lives better do to the lack of help. Adding to our troubles was this email (below) I received that morning before leaving to go to Long Beach.

The owner of the bobcat needed it to clean a property he is working on.  They are suppose to bring it back tomorrow (Sunday).  Ezequiel should have the key (he has the small red pick up truck).  I hope they do bring it back for you tomorrow.

The Weather...(it's getting dark)

Do not forget to carry foul weather gear. The nights will be getting cold soon. A jacket, gloves and a small lap blanket sure come in handy when you need them.

All of a sudden you have a lot of dog on your hands? Yes, the cooler weather agrees with them (dogs and sheep) so they are feeling better thus putting out more effort. Not exactly a good thing for the beginning handlers

A Poem...( FOUR FEET By R. Kipling)

I have done mostly what most men do,
and pushed it out of my mind.
But I can't forget, if I wanted to,
four-feet trotting behind.
Day after day, the whole day through,
wherever my road inclined -
four-feet said, "I am coming with you"
and trotted along behind.
Now I must go by some other round -
which I shall never find -
somewhere that does not carry the sound
of four-feet trotting behind.

The Sheep...(breeding)

The new Ram is being used sparingly for class these next few months, the Ewes are keeping him plenty busy . Some Ewes have been reluctant to come out of their pen because they did not want to leave him. They actually have voiced their displeasure at being separated from him for the work in the arena.

Grain and minerals are now being added to their diets slowly at first. The extra protein can poison them if it is introduced in too great amounts too soon. This is done to help them keep weight while carrying the lamb and to bolster their metabolism during the winter.

We get to see the results of this extra work starting late December and on through April. That time is known as "Lambing" season. Ewes will be showing beginning sign of pregnancy

Class hours...

Class hours  are  listed below. What I want to call your attention to is the pm time. It is only valid when no one is out and I am not expecting anyone else. It represents when I will put the sheep away and leave if I am out there alone and do not know that you are coming out.

Perris 11:00 am till 5:00 pm
Anaheim 11:00 am till 5:00 pm
Long Beach 11:00 am till 7:00 pm

All locations have lights. On rainy weather days lights will not be used and class will stop just before dark. Otherwise, we will continue after dark if participation warrants it.
