Perspective...

What a day of contrast this Wednesday at the Anaheim class provided. Coming thru the gate as has become customary with my hands full Choice tethered to pick run up to the area where we sit leaving me behind with the normal hands and arm full of stuff. Leaving was a women whom I do not know without a dog who asked me to not close the gate. Adding her friend was right behind her with her sheltie. The two of them joined up exiting the gate and I over heard the women with the 8 year old sheltie say " I do not want my dog to be traumatized".

I asked Matt what that was all about and he mentioned that the woman with the sheltie said that it did not get along with other dogs and that Pic with his puppy enthusiasm came bonking in upsetting her and her dog. She ended up leaving without taking a lesson.

The rest of the day was normal until I left. Yes arms full , Choice and Pic tethered together and a car pulling up asking if I was leaving. I said that I was and that Matt was still here. Almost while I was answering her, she volunteered that her dog was dying and that she just had to give a chance to work sheep before it died. I reassured her that lessons where still going on, as she mentioned that her dog was going to die Friday. She had to, owed it to her dog, a chance to work sheep before then.

I am mystified how I am able to keep sane with the insane things that happen around me! Just another day of contrast.

The Sheep...(weaning)

It is the job of the shepherd to maintain the flock. It is time to separate the lambs from their mothers. It is part of the human condition to be able to do unpleasant seemingly mean things hoping that good will come from it. This is one of those tasks.

Brags...

Gummybear - Gummybear of Royal Hearts, Pembroke Welsh Corgi at the AKC- IEHDA trial on March 14-15,2009, at Stonewall Ranch, Perris, California Saturday, Gummybear earned 1st place in started with (score93) and HIT, on Course A for her first started leg. Sunday Gummybear earned her started second leg, and went 2nd place. Gummybear had a rough start in life. Thanks to Jerry for his efforts
and hard work while helping her become a proficient herder and  overcome her issues. Owned by Penny Halbach. Handled by Jerry Stewart

PIC- Kennelley's Easy's Pic, at Tricounty ,Pomona. Pic had his first exposure to herding Trials. At 8months old every thing is a first. Although he had never worked cattle or ducks or been in a duck arena, he was up for the job. Oh the flying sheep or the sneaky ones that muscled their way thru any opening to let their self's out of the arena,  well they never got a chance to pull their antics with Pic. Two herding trials in one day resulted in 6 1st placements and 3 Started ASCA titles, STD s,d,c.

He did not stop there, we did the nearly impossible as he also went High Combined Trials Other Breed from the started classes. Owner/handler Jerry Stewart.

(editors note :the reason it is so difficult to go high in trial and especially high combined trials in a ASCA trial is that the open and advanced class have addition points available to them. This is because they have an addition obstacle to do)
