Lodi 11/10-11/11- Oxford Ranch

Saturday Advanced sheep Tess showed Jerry how it was done: run solo at warp speed. Ran so fast the bottom of her back right foot got scorched. Open Cattle, 1st place, no qualifying score.
Sunday, a dark rainy morning, the two warriors showed up not speaking to one another. Tess was three legged. Advanced sheep- were we going to be able to trial? It was suggested to put pregisone on the pad. Bingo. Thanks to Jerry's recent surgery, it was in his bag of tricks. Tess tried to refuse treatment, the medication was applied, she was healed! (sort of anyway). 1st place with a qualifying score finishing her ATD,s. Open Cattle, 3 legged again. Jerry took Tess to the gate walking so slow Tess had to adjust her pace so that her weight was on all 4. Jerry pulled out every trick in the bag. Tess look like an advanced dog, heading, heeling. The final gate to the hold pen slammed (with 32 seconds left) and Tess finished her OTD,c with 1st place and her qualifying score.

Your Trainer...1000 th Herding Event Run!

Over the weekend of November 24,25 2007. I sat down and entered the information for my 1000 th recorded herding event run.

Up until 3/21/1998 I had recorded just 321 of my personal dogs runs although I had been handling other people's dogs for a long time before that date I just did not keep a record of those runs .

Penny sent me an excerpt from one of Cesar's Books

I worked with the couple on the basics of the walk, and of course, on improving their leadership skills. But after our first session, I scheduled another appointment, to take them to the All-Breed Herding facility in Long Beach, California, run by my friend Jerome Stewart, a decorated American Kennel Club (AKC) and American Herding Breed Association (AHBA) herding test and trial judge and a true expert when it comes to everything about herding dogs. Ted and Shellie seemed a little hesitant when they first saw the flock of sheep at Jerry's ranch, and I'm sure they wondered if their city dog would know what on earth to do with them all. But as Jerry reassured them, biology and genetics had already implanted the herding program into Gus's brain....yada yada yade...I even helped an antisocial Rottweiler by introducing him to Jerry's herding classes. Jerry has a saying that I think sums up the primal power of the herding experience for any cattle dog: "A dog with herding instinct and no training can make enough work for nine men to do. A trained herding dog can do the work of nine men. You need to decide which you would rather live with."
